Another Saturday, another quest for knowledge.

Today I have been searching the New Mexico Board of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine website in order to understand exactly what is required for a Doctor of Oriental Medicine (D.O.M.) License in the state. Here is a link to their  site: NMBAOM.
As of June 2004, the Board started requiring the Bio Medicine Exam from NCCAOM. I graduated in December of 2003, a mere months before this requirement set in. If only I had taken that exam during those months. Ahhh, hindsight is 20/20.
I have saved and printed the application for licensure, cover letter, and checklist and am excited to have my jumping off point!
I have already completed my oral examination for the state, which I have been told and it appears as this information is correct. However, I will need to resubmit the application (mentioned above) and pay the accompanying fee of $525.

Wow! I must really want this!! Between the Bio-Med exam, the application fee, and the practice tests, my expenses are nearing $1500. So, YES!! I do really want this. I want to be able to practice this medicine which invigorates my soul while helping people in an holistic and self-empowering way. I am choosing to create a pathway for me to practice outside of fear-the fear of not following the rules. I want to empower myself with the foundation I need to promote myself wholeheartedly!

My next order of business is back on the NCCAOM.org site to begin compiling a framework for study. I want to know exactly as possible what will be on the exam. This site offers pdf's of "exam content," "suggested study tips and strategies," and an "examination study guide" which costs $25. As is often true for me in life, what is offered is slightly different than what I need. Their study guide is a complete packet for Oriental Medicine licensing, of which I am already certified, but includes the Bio-Med. I will call them Monday to ask if I can purchase just the section I need to study.
In the meantime, I have the outline for the exam content. Again, the content includes all testing modules and is in the form of a pdf file. I would like to include the information as a blog post, so I will need to extrude the Bio-Med section from the pdf file into something that I can work with more easily. Stay tuned for that content.

Thanks for reading and following!
Cheers!
